The Rawalpindi Bar Association (RBA) has condemned threats received by Lieutenant Colonel (r) Inam-ur-Raheim, who is taking up cases of missing persons free of cost, allegedly from an agency.

RBA President Malik Khalid Jawad, General Secretary Sardar Manzar Bashir and other senior lawyers urged the government to provide security to bar members in this situation.

The RBA, through a press note, said it has been reported by Colonel Inam, a member of the District Bar Association, that, on October 17, 2011, he had been threatened by an agency to give up the cases of missing persons.

Inam, a former judge of the Military Court, who got Tamgha-i-Imtiaz during his service, told ‘The News’ that the agency had threatened him, but “I am pleading the cases free of cost and will continue doing so.”

The RBA office-bearers said: “The entire legal fraternity is united on this issue and assures complete support to the bar member for his principled stand and commitment with constitutional, legal and moral obligations.” They said that the matter has been brought into the notice of the chief justice of Pakistan, who, they expected, would take suo moto action.
